Google integrated three new features on Thursday, August 1st, including Lens for Chrome desktop, tab compare for shopping assistance, and natural language integration for search history. Google Lens is coming to Chrome Desktop after introducing it on Android and iOS.
Searching by visuals can now take more initiative as the Gemini-powered Google Lens is coming to Chrome desktop. This feature is officially known as “Drag to Search.” This feature is now live in Chrome 128 beta and ChromeOS 127 beta.
To activate this feature on Chromebook:
- Click the Google Lens icon next to the address bar that you will see next to the bookmark.
- Your cursor will now change to a cross-chair with a drag-to-search lens.
- You can drag the cursor to select anything you want the lens to search for; the results will now appear in the Google Lens side panel.
- You may also get Gemini-powered results depending on your search to get the most relevant search.
On Windows and Macs, you won’t see the Lens icon in the address bar; however, it is on the Chrome menu. To access it:
- Open the menu and select Search with Google Lens.
- Click and drag on the page to select what you want.
- You can type in the search box that you will see in the side panel to enhance the answer.
- For quicker access, you can also pin the lens icon to add it to the toolbar.
