New Cyberattack Targets iPhone Users

New Cyberattack Targets iPhone

A warning has been issued to all iPhone users because a new cyberattack targets iPhone users via Apple IDs. Almost 1.46 billion iPhone users worldwide are facing this cyberattack.

Earlier this month, on July 2nd, the Californian Symantec security company found this scam and released this warning. In this scam, scammers use SMS phishing techniques to send messages claiming to be from Apple that invite users to visit a link about an important iCloud update or verification.

However, the links lead the users to cleverly design fake sites that ask for your Apple ID and passwords. To make the site look legal, the scammers have been included in a CAPTCHA. When you complete the CAPTCHA, you are taken to what looks like an outdated iCloud login page, where you are driven to enter your credentials, which is a diamond for cybercriminals. It grants them access to your personal and financial data and control over your devices.

The new cyberattack targets iPhone users, which is why Apple recommends that iPhone users enable 2FA or two-factor authorization. To add an extra layer of security to their Apple ID. To open your Apple account with 2FA, a user will get a message with a six-digit code that must be punched in to access your Apple account.

To turn on 2FA on your iPhone for Apple ID, follow these steps:

  • Go to the settings app on your iPhone.
  • Tap on your name, and then tap on Sign-in and Security.
  • Now tap on Turn on Two-Factor Authorization and then Continue.
  • After that, enter the phone number that you want to use to send the 2FA code.
  • Tap on the Next tab to send a code to your number.

So, if you get an email or a message from Apple, make sure not to tap on the links, and don’t forget to use the abovementioned steps to add 2FA to your Apple ID. But if you suspect that the new cyberattack targets iPhone, then you must check if your iPhone is hacked in the settings app or not.
