How to Make a Public Profile on Snapchat

How to Make a Public Profile on Snapchat? Snapchat has had a rough two years back, but the company seems determined to stay relevant, and its new features suggest that it may succeed. One of those new features is the ability to create a public profile. Didn’t we already have that capability? Let’s find out.

Eligibility Criteria for a Snapchat ‘Public Profile’

For now, it seems that anyone can create a Snapchat Public Profile. Your account must be at least a few months old if you are a regular user.

You will need at least 5000 subscribers to get a Public Profile that is tier 2 and comes with analytics and insights. Snapchat’s application form can be found on their website.

How to Create a Public Profile

Snapchat has now made basic public profiles available to everyone for more than a week. This update is being released in batches across different regions, so it might take a few days for it to show up in your app.

In either case, you will have to go public with your current profile before creating a Tier 1 Public Profile for your account. Now, let’s take a look at how you can create a ‘Public Profile’ once this feature becomes available.

Going Public

  • In the top left corner of your screen, tap your profile icon to open Snapchat.
  • Tap again on the ‘Gear’ icon in the top right corner.

Make the following changes to each setting in the ‘Who can…’ section.

  • Contact Me: Everyone
  • Send Me Notifications: Everyone
  • View My Story: Everyone
  • See My Location: My Friends
  • Use My Cameos Selfie: Everyone
  • See Me in Quick Add: Turned On

After you have made the changes, close Snapchat and reopen it.

And that its! You have just made your profile public, so anyone in your friend circle will be able to see you in suggestions and contact you.

Create a Public Profile

  • Tap your profile icon in the top left corner of Snapchat.

You should now have a new option called ‘Add to Snap Map’ under ‘Stories’ or the ‘Spotlight & Snap Map’ section depending on your device and version of the app. Tap the ‘three-dot’ icon beside this option.

  • Now tap on ‘Create Public Profile’.

If the ‘Create Public Profile’ option is not available, you can try changing your location to the USA using a VPN. This trick only seems to work for some users. If it does not work for you, you will have to wait a few days for Snapchat to officially launch Public Profiles in your region.

You will now be introduced to all the new features of a Tier 1 Public Profile on Snapchat. To proceed to the next step, tap on ‘Continue’ at the bottom of your screen.

  • At the bottom, tap on ‘Get Started’.

For one last time, Snapchat will show you a disclaimer about creating a Public Profile. Click ‘Create’ to continue.

Once you return to the ‘Settings’ page, you should see a new section called ‘Public Profiles’ with a sub-section called ‘My Public Profile’. Tap on it to get started.

  • You can now edit all the details in your public profile by tapping on ‘Edit Profile’.

And that’s it! You now have a Snapchat Public Profile!

What are the perks of a ‘public profile’?

Snapchat has different kinds of public profiles, which can be used to distinguish different levels of creators. These profiles are typically approved by submitting an application. The public profile, however, is free and a new addition for all Snapchat users. Here are some of its highlights.

  • Exposure to content added to Snap Map and Public Stories
  • A subscribe button for your viewers
  • Highlights section
  • Your name will appear on all Snaps shared publicly.
  • Your lenses will also be made public (This includes your creations as well as your favorites)

Difference between a public profile and going public

Being Public implies changing the privacy settings on your Snapchat profile. This feature has been around for a while, and going public lets your friends and groups see your stories and snaps. Users who do not belong to your contact list can also see your latest stories and snaps if they have your username.

While this is a great way to connect with people, it leaves you at the mercy of Snapchat’s algorithm. This means that Snapchat can suggest your pic to anyone who might be associated with your Snapchat circle. In addition, going public will not help you reach a new audience, but rather connect with friends of friends, etc.

Snapchat has introduced a slew of new features including the ‘Public Profile’. Additionally, Snapchat offers a ‘Snap Star’ profile, which has more perks than a Public Profile.

Your Public Profile is essentially a new version of your current account that allows you to post content differently. Your public profile will have its own privacy settings, stories, and highlights. Users can then use this platform to promote their talent, create interesting content, and more.

The move follows the mediocre reception of Snapchat TV, which was exclusively rolled out to verified profiles that met Snpachat’s standards. Though a great way to share content on the platform, it was only available to a select few users. With the new ‘Public Profile’ feature, Snapchat appears to have realized the importance of providing such platforms to artists.
