Method 2: Tesla App

  • Launch the Tesla app and select your vehicle.
  • Hover over to the Upgrades menu.
  • Then, tap subscribe and complete the payment method.

Is Tesla Premium Connectivity Worth it?

The premium connectivity is worth it or not; it depends on your preferences and requirements. If you use the features of Tesla premium connectivity frequently, then it may be worth the investment. But if you don’t use its features and may not find them necessary, then it is not worth the investment, and you just waste your money.

Well, the real-time traffic data feature is a good reason to subscribe to this package. And if you like to watch movies while charging your Tesla at a charging station (Supercharge), the premium connectivity is really worth it for you. However, most drivers do not find it worth it because once you turn on your phone’s hotspot, you will get all the features of Tesla premium connectivity except satellite view maps on GPS.

How to Restart Tesla Safely (2024) https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=how-to-restart-tesla/ https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=how-to-restart-tesla/#respond Wed, 24 Apr 2024 10:40:03 +0000 https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=?p=245562 Your Tesla touchscreen stops responding or pops up an unclear generic error code; in this situation, you have to restart Tesla. If you don’t know how to restart Tesla, don’t worry; read this article and learn how to do it.

2 Options for Tesla Restarting

Your Tesla system is unresponsive or demonstrates unusual behavior. Then, you have two options for rebooting or restarting your Tesla: the soft reboot and the hard reboot. However, the Tesla factory reset is another topic.

1. Soft Reset

A soft reset is also known as a software or full vehicle restart. It restarts the Tesla infotainment center and software while the electronics remain powered. It is just like resetting your smartphone. However, the soft reset restarts the software without cutting off your Tesla’s onboard electronics.

Furthermore, the soft reset for Tesla has two types: the touchscreen reset and the full vehicle reset. The full vehicle reset is known as the power cycling of the vehicle. It turns your Tesla off and back on with a better-engaged system.

2. Hard Reset

A hard reset is also known as a hardware restart. It disconnects the 12V battery for discharging the electronics and hooks the battery back up again. It is similar to removing and then reinserting the battery from your laptop to reset it.

NOTE: Keep in mind that you should only try the hard reboot on your Tesla if a soft reboot does not fix the issue or if you live far away from a Tesla Service Center or have experience fiddling with your Tesla’s high-voltage equipment.

How to Restart Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model X, and Model S?

Your Tesla car requires a soft reboot (reset touchscreen or power cycling) when it is stuck on a frozen screen. But if the fault is bigger because of Tesla autopilot or charging issues, then it needs a hard reset.

Here, we have shared the steps on how to restart Tesla.

NOTE: Tesla recommends you shut your Tesla door and park it before doing the soft reset and hard reset.

Restart Tesla Touchscreen Display

  • Press and hold down both scroll buttons on the steering wheel until the touch screen turns black.
  • Wait approximately 30 seconds for the touchscreen and instrument clusters to refresh and restart.
  • After that, if the touchscreen is still unresponsive, then try a full vehicle reset.

Power Cycling the Vehicle or a Full Vehicle Reset

Method 1

  • Navigate to Controls > Safety and Security > Power Off.
  • Do not touch the brake, doors, steering wheels, or touchscreen for at least 2 to 3 minutes.
  • After that, press the brake or open the door to open your Tesla.

Method 2

  • Press and hold the brake pedal and buttons above the scroll wheels on either side of the steering wheel for almost 10 seconds.
  • After that, the screen will turn off and then on. Once the screen turns on, release the pedal and buttons to restart Tesla.

How to Hard Reset Tesla

Disclaimer: Do not try to hard reboot or reset the Tesla vehicles if you are unskilled with high-voltage systems. Because it can damage your vehicle, and an accidental warranty evacuation can happen.

The mobile services perform the hard reset. But if you are far away from the mobile service centers and it is not available, use the below-mentioned method with care and don’t avoid Tesla battery life and warranty.

  • Turn off the climate control system and open the driver’s window to avoid being accidentally locked out.
  • Open the frunk, remove the top panel to access the 12V battery, disconnect the ground, and protect the terminal from the post to avoid contact.
  • For Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X: Remove the first responder loop and wait for 2 minutes. Then, re-join the battery ground and first responder loop. After that, replace the storage unit and close the frunk.
  • For Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3: Open the passenger door, attach all the backseat belts, and swipe your hand under the seats to release the clips that hold the seat down; lift the seats. Now remove the foam cover for the wire harness, disable it, and unplug it. Then, wait for at least 2 to 5 minutes and reverse the steps to replace the wire harness, foam cover, seats, 12V battery, and plastic cover in the frunk.

Is Tesla not Restarting? Try these Steps:

Now you know how to restart Tesla, but what if the above steps are not working? Use these additional steps to restart Tesla.

  • Turn off anything plugged into the Tesla USB port.
  • Turn off the Bluetooth connection on your smartphone when restarting Tesla.
  • Remove data from the Tesla trip computer by navigating to the controls option > Trips > Reset.
  • Also, remove the saved locations from the memory.

However, if all the above basic steps do not help, then contact the Tesla service center to resolve the issue.

FAQs

Q: When should I restart Tesla?
A: If the Tesla touch screen is unresponsive, functioning erratically, having network connectivity issues, software update glitches, or Tesla service tells you to turn off and then back on.

Q: What happens when you drive while restarting the Tesla?
A: Tesla recommends not driving while resetting, but you can actually do that. The driving will remain even while screens are loading during the resetting time. But when you need the screen, it will be unavailable at that time until the software loads. You will also lose the functionality of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HAVC) for a while until the software loads.

Q: What should I do when the Tesla screen reboots itself randomly?
A: If your Tesla is rebooting itself, it happen due to the memory issue; the eMMC (embedded MultiMediaCard) is probably heading to an early grave.

Tesla Full Self Driving (FSD) Technology https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=tesla-full-self-driving/ https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=tesla-full-self-driving/#respond Sat, 20 Apr 2024 06:49:33 +0000 https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=?p=245036 Do you want to know about Tesla full self driving (FSD) technology?

What is Tesla Full Self Driving?

FSD is a more advanced version of the Tesla autopilot that was announced later in 2016. It is an autonomous driver assistance system that uses different hardware and software to let your Tesla navigate on its own.

FSD uses 8 external cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, radar, GPS data, and computers to read the surrounding environment and make real-time decisions to control your Tesla’s acceleration, steering, and braking. The autopilot systems in the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y are based on cameras, while the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X are based on radar.

Tesla Full Self Driving Beta

FSD Beta is the live testing stage of the full self-driving software to make the vehicle autonomous at level 5. The beta phase is a bit controversial because the vehicles functioning under FSD remain at level 2 automation. That is why Tesla vehicles are not fully self-driving and need a fully attentive driver.

Functions that are available for Tesla’s full self-driving beta testing are traffic and stop sign control and autosteer on city streets. Tesla owners who meet certain safety and monitoring requirements can apply for beta testing from the Tesla App and pay for a subscription or full payment.

What can Tesla FSD do?

Tesla’s full self driving system includes Tesla standard autopilot features, enhanced autopilot features, and more improved capabilities. The autopilot features include adaptive cruise control and an autosteer lane-keeping assistant. The enhanced autopilot features include auto lane change, auto park, and summon. FSD takes that step further and lets your car identify stop signs and traffic lights, and it will soon let your Tesla vehicle steer on city streets.

However, recent software updates with full self driving capability can improve the detection of animals and pedestrians. Full self-driving is used on highways and urban and suburban areas as well; meanwhile, autopilot works only on highways.

  • On a highway trip, FSD combines navigation with autopilot to find the efficient route, navigate on-ramp to off-ramp, exit interchanges, and lane changes.
  • On the road, FSD combines auto lane change and autosteer to set and execute a lane change when you press the turn signal.

NOTE: Keep in mind that you have to stay in the driver’s seat, pay attention on the road, make sure to put your hands on the wheel, stay alert, and be ready to take over. Because you are responsible for the car’s behavior, Tesla does not take responsibility for the accident, whether you use Tesla autopilot, enhanced autopilot, or FSD.

FSD Drawbacks

Almost all functions of FSD require constant monitoring and input from the driver. Full self driving does not let the car completely drive itself because it does not allow a Tesla to work for a longer time with the driver’s hand off the steering wheel.

Moreover, if you sell a Tesla with FSD, the purchaser will get the technology because FSD is not transferable. And you have to buy the package again for your new Tesla. It means you have to pay the hefty amount for another time.

Tesla Full Self Driving Subscription

Tesla FSD technology is available to customers but is far from free. However, Tesla slashes the full self-driving subscription price, which depends on your vehicle’s current autopilot package.

FSD Monthly Subscription

  • Basic Autopilot to FSD: $99 monthly
  • Enhanced autopilot for FSD: $99 monthly

Moreover, Tesla FSD is also available to purchase for a one-time fee of $12,000, depending on the vehicle, and the subscription is not transferable to future cars.

Is Tesla Full Self Driving Worth it?

According to our team’s personal driving experience, the Tesla FSD is not worth the $12000 price tag and not even worth the $99 per month.

The software is buggy and can’t handle real-life driving situations every time. In the driving review, we found that the vehicles want to make unnecessary lane changes or will put you in the slower lane. Moreover, the car will accelerate into red intersections before banging on the brakes.

Consequently, as per our experience, we recommend upgrading the Tesla for FSD, and paying a hefty amount is not a good idea. When driving you can’t trust your life and feel it needs a lot of work.

So, Tesla’s full self-driving is a big NO from us.

FAQs

Q: How to activate full self driving?
To activate FSD, tap on controls > autopilot > autopilot features > full self driving beta. Now read and understand the pop-up window carefully, and then touch on the Yes tab.

Q: How to tell if a Tesla has full self driving capability?
To know if you have access to FSD, choose the controls option in settings > Autopilot > Autopilot settings. Here, see whether you are full self driving or not.

How Much Does It Cost to Charge A Tesla in 2024 https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=how-much-does-it-cost-to-charge-a-tesla/ https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=how-much-does-it-cost-to-charge-a-tesla/#respond Thu, 18 Apr 2024 06:40:39 +0000 https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=?p=245027 If you are buying a Tesla, then you must be wondering how much does it cost to charge a Tesla.

You have four options for charging a Tesla.

  1. In-home Charging
  2. Superchargers
  3. Public Charging Stations
  4. Solar Energy

Right now, Tesla offers 5 EVs, including the Tesla Model S, the Tesla Model X, the Tesla Model Y, the Tesla Model 3, and the Tesla Cybertruck: this post shows how much you can expect to pay to charge the Tesla Model lineup.

How Much Does It Cost To Charge A Tesla At Home?

Tesla in-home charging is the most affordable and convenient way to charge your batteries. Tesla offers different options for in-home charging, including:

  • Mobile connector (120 volts): It is the standard outlet that you use to charge your phone. It charges your vehicle for 3 miles of driving range per hour.
  • The adapter bundle (240 volts): It is used for heavy-duty appliances in your home. It can charge up to 30 miles of driving range per hour and costs around $245.
  • Tesla Wall Connector: It will add up to 44 miles of driving range per hour and cost around $450.
  • Universal Wall Connector: It costs around $620 and will add up to 44 miles of driving range per hour. However, it can charge both Tesla and non-Tesla electric vehicles with J1772 adapters.

NOTE: Tesla recommends you install the wall connector or universal wall connector unit in your home or garage.

Here, we have shared the estimated cost of fully charging the Tesla at home.

Tesla ModelsThe Cost of a Full Charge
Tesla Model 3Up to $7–$32
Tesla Model YUp to $8–$32
Tesla Model XUp to $11–$39
Tesla Model SUp to $11–$$39

Keep in mind that the exact cost of charging a Tesla at home can vary based on the model you are using, electricity rates in your region, the type of charger you are using, your driving habits, and the weather.

How Much Does It Cost To Charge A Tesla with Supercharger?

If you are on a road trip, then you must find the nearest Tesla supercharger to fill up your electric car. The Tesla charging network is the cheapest and fastest option that can add 200 miles of driving range in just 15 minutes.

However, the cost of charging a Tesla at a supercharger depends on the location, the charging speed you select, and whether you are charging during peak hours or off-peak hours. Furthermore, the Tesla supercharging network offers free supercharging to Tesla users based on the promotions or referrals listed in the Tesla app.

Here, we have shared the estimated cost of fully charging the Tesla at the charging station (Supercharger).

Tesla ModelsThe Cost of a Full Charge
Tesla Model 3Up to $17-$46
Tesla Model YUp to $19-$46
Tesla Model XUp to $29-$58
Tesla Model SUp to $29-$58

How Much Does It Cost To Charge A Tesla At a Public Charging Station?

You can also charge a Tesla at a public charging station, such as ChargePoint or Wawa. The prices for this charging option vary from company to company, your location and some other factors. Moreover, your Tesla can also be charged at destination charging stations. These chargers are placed at businesses and hotels and have Tesla wall connectors for charging.

How Much Does it Cost To Charge a Tesla with Solar Energy?

If you want to pay less and maximize your savings, then you must opt for the Tesla home power solar system for charging. Solar power can produce 5 cents per KWH (kilowatt per hour), which lets you charge your EV for even less than the estimate mentioned above.

A solar system lasts between 25 and 30 years, and a Tesla lasts around 22 to 30 years, so installing solar for charging Tesla is worth the investment. Verily, once you have done with paying for the solar system, you will produce electricity and charge your Tesla for FREE.

Factors Impacting the Cost of Charging a Tesla

Here, we have shared every factor that can fluctuate the cost of charging your Tesla.

  • Tesla Model you have: The type of EV you are driving, depending on your Tesla’s battery life, range, and battery capacity, affects the cost of charging.
  • The Source of Electricity: Another factor that affects the cost of charging is the electric source you are using. You have two options for electricity sources: either pay for the conventional electricity package from your utility or select solar energy. Solar energy costs less each year to charge your Tesla. However, the standard electricity packages are more expensive.
  • Your Location: Electricity costs differ from state to state, so your location plays a vital role in how much does it cost to charge a Tesla model.
  • Charging Time: Another factor that affects the charging cost is how much time it takes to charge your Tesla. If you are charging the battery from zero to full, it will take more time. So, you need more energy to charge the battery, and it costs more to charge your battery as well.
  • When you Charge: The public charging station and supercharges cost more when you charge your Tesla during peak hours (during the day) and less during off-peak hours (overnight). So, charging your EV is also a vital factor in the cost of charging your Tesla.
  • Charging Station You Use: The cost of charging varies depending on the charging station you use as well. However, fast charging costs more because of the charging speed.
  • Your Driving Habits: You need to charge more frequently if you drive longer commutes; correspondingly, you have to pay more.

Calculation for Tesla Charging Cost

Use this formula to know how much does it cost to charge a Tesla:

Charging Cost = (VR/RPK) x CPK
  • VR = vehicle’s range: 1500 miles monthly
  • RPK = range per kWh: estimated at about 3 miles
  • CPK: cost per kWh: $0.25

(1500/3) x 0.25 = $125

Suppose you drive 1500 miles monthly. Divide this figure by the range of 3 miles per kWh. The result is 500 kWh used in a month. Now multiply that figure by the cost per kWh. If you use a level 2 charger on the road, it costs $0.25 per kWh, so the cost of monthly charging would be $125. However, on a road trip, the vehicle range and price will probably be lower as well.

Tesla Autopilot VS Enhanced Autopilot VS Full Self Driving: Which is Right For You? https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=tesla-autopilot-vs-enhanced-autopilot-vs-full-self-driving/ https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=tesla-autopilot-vs-enhanced-autopilot-vs-full-self-driving/#respond Wed, 17 Apr 2024 06:37:22 +0000 https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=?p=245021 Find out Tesla autopilot vs enhanced autopilot vs full self driving and which one is right for you.

Tesla vehicles can drive themselves to a certain degree because of the sensors, cameras, and AI technology. However, it does not mean that Tesla EVs can be used with driver supervision, and drivers must pay attention to avoid any incidents.

Tesla Autopilot

The first basic and least advanced autonomous autopilot mode was released by Tesla in 2014. All-new Tesla vehicles come with autopilot included for free. But if you have a Tesla Model 3 built before April 2019, then you will not have basic autopilot features included, and you will need to pay $4000 for the upgrade.

The basic Tesla autopilot is designed to be used with full regulation by the driver. It includes two features: lane centering (Autosteer) and adaptive cruise control. However, both of these features are common in modern cars.

When you use the Tesla Autopilot, the autosteer mode keeps your vehicle in a lane. You can only activate the autosteer mode when the cruise control is used while driving at a certain high speed. However, the autosteer will turn off when the driver presses the brake. When you turn on the traffic cruise control mode, it adjusts your car’s speed to match the traffic.

Tesla Enhanced Autopilot

Tesla’s enhanced autopilot mode was released in September 2020 and costs $6000. This mode has some features that other modern cars don’t have. The enhanced autopilot has five features, including:

  1. Navigate on Autopilot: It can drive your Tesla on the highway from on-ramp to off-ramp without your input. Moreover, it also recommends lane changes, automatically turning on your turn signal, navigating interchanges, and taking the correct exit.
  2. Auto Lane Change: It will robotically fine-tune the lanes, and you can also set it to require your permission before making any changes.
  3. Autopark: It will park your Tesla into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces automatically. It also checks for any empty parking lot around you, in case you are finding a parking spot.
  4. Summon: You can move your Tesla vehicle forward and backward in a constrained parking area from the Tesla app.
  5. Smart Summon: It can guide your Tesla towards you in complex environments like a rainy day or a thunderstorm.

Tesla FSD: Full Self Driving

Tesla’s full self-driving (FSD) mode was released in November 2022 and costs $15,000 upfront or $200 per monthly subscription. It is the most expensive, but advanced, autopilot option. The owner of Tesla, Elon Musk, claims that the FSD lets you navigate independently without human interaction. Furthermore, Elon actually uses the FSD in the upcoming vehicle, the Tesla Robotaxi, unveiled on August 8. This vehicle can be driven automatically and generate income for its owners when it is not in use.

Tesla said that the FSD is the eventual car-to-door mode that can drive you from point A to point B. However, up until now, FSD is not quite there, so you should be ready to stay alert and be in control. Well, right now, the FSD offers the same features that basic and enhanced autopilot offers. But the exclusive features include two:

  1. Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control: It lets your vehicle start and stop at the traffic light and stop signs.
  2. Autosteer on the Streets: It is currently available to Tesla FSD Beta users but will be available soon to everybody. It lets your car drive itself anywhere with little assistance.

Which is Right for You? Tesla Autopilot VS Enhanced Autopilot VS Full Self Driving

All of the Tesla’s autopilot modes are overpriced and overhyped, according to our team’s deep review. Tesla is asking people to pay a lot of money for some risky software features.

But if you have a new Tesla that was built after April 2019, then you can freely use the standard autopilot. You don’t have to purchase the $4000 upgrade, which is really a hefty amount for just two features.

Conclusively, which software is right for you—whether Tesla autopilot vs. enhanced autopilot vs full self driving—depends on your lifestyle, net income, and guts to deal with sometimes immature software.

Controversies Related to Tesla Autopilot

The autopilot mode of Tesla has come under intense critisim.

The reason for criticism is that the autopilot is engaged in multiple accidents. It let the NHTSA: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration start looking into the use of autopilot. After the investigation results, over 360,000 Tesla vehicles with FSD Beta were recalled. The official report of NHTSA stated that self-driving technology causes certain cars to act unsafe when approaching connections and that may fail to stop aptly.

Another reason od the criticism is that it is important to remember that Tesla clearly says that a driver has to be fully attentive when using any of the autonomous features. Also, a driver should never depend on an autosteer to know an appropriate driving path.

However, it is another matter whether or not a driver abides by these guidelines. Any Tesla vehicle is not prepared to take you from your home to the office while you are sleeping, romancing with your partner, or drinking alcohol.

FAQ’s

Q: What is the FSD Beta?
Tesla FSD can drive you to your destination, stopping at and negotiating intersections, making left and right turns, navigating roundabouts, and entering/exiting highways whether the roads are curved or straight.

The battery-electric Cybertruck is a medium-duty, full-size pickup truck manufactured by Tesla. It was launched as a concept vehicle in November 2023. At first glance, it looks like a spaceship, features a triangular body design, and is unique among all-electric vehicles available on the market. The owner of Tesla, Elon Musk, said that the Cybertruck has the capabilities to challenge the top-selling pickup trucks.

Cybertruck Models and Prices

Cybertruck ModelsPrice
Single-motor Rear-Wheel Drive$60,990
Dual-motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD)$79,990
Tri-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) “Cyberbeast”$99,990

The Tesla Cybertruck has three models; as of writing, Tesla is delivering two models, Dual motor AWD and Cyberbeast Tri motor AWD, in limited quantities. The third model single-motor RWD – rear wheel drive should start shipping in 2025.

Tesla Cybertruck Interior, Design, and Comfort Level

The Cybertruck stainless steel body consists of a polarizing, angular design with sharp edges and paintless alloy body panels. The doors are bulletproof, and the stainless steel is dust resistant but quickly accumulates fingerprints and stains.

Well, if you think that the interior of the Tesla Model 3 is minimalistic would have the same reaction you see in the Cybertruck cabin. The headroom is large in the rear seat, wide enough to accommodate 5 occupants. But a rider over six feet tall still finds the interior chaunted. The glass roof spreads nearly uninterrupted from the windshield to the back of the truck.

However, the chunky A-pillar up front and small windows create massive blind spots, which is why the rear mirror becomes useless. Consequently, you must depend on the truck’s cameras to see around you.

Drive Performance

The dual motor of a Tesla Cybertruck makes a combined 600 horsepower. However, if you are looking for ultimate performance, then you will appreciate the Cyberbeast model, which features a trio motor that makes a combined 834 horsepower. The powertrain components for each motor are placed in a liquid cool integrated subassembly that includes the rotor/stator inverter and the gear set.

Moreover, the Cybertruck feels so agile on the road as the combination of rear steering wheels and adjustable ratio steer-by-wire system makes easy maneuver in town environments than other pickup trucks. However, the adjustable air suspension system offers up to 17 inches of ground clearance, 35-degree approach, and 28-degree departure angles that make the Tesla Cybertruck a strong off-road vehicle.

Battery and Range

The dual motor all-wheel drive model’s estimated driving range is 340 miles, and the Cyberbeast model has a range of 320 miles. However, the single-motor Rear-Wheel Drive model has an estimated driving range is 250 miles. Tesla claims that when the dual-motor AWD is charged with a Tesla supercharger, it further can add 136 miles in 15 minutes, and the tri-motor AWD model can add 128 miles simultaneously.

However, the driving range can rise over 440 and 407 miles, correspondingly with an optional range extender battery pack that can fit inside the truck’s cargo bed. The battery life of the Tesla Cybertruck covered 8 years or 150.000 miles, and the warranty lasts 4 years or 50,000 miles, whatever comes first.

Cargo and Towing

The cargo bed of Cybertruck is 72 inches long and 48 inches wide with sloped side walls. Offering 121 cubic feet volume that can load 2500 pounds with the 11,000 pounds of towing capacity. Inside the cargo bed, there is a hidden storage section under the floor, which is big enough to fit an extra carry-on suitcase. Moreover, the Tesla Cybertruck also includes a motor-powered roller shutter-style tonneau cover that folds a storage area.

Is Tesla Cybertruck Really Worth it?

Cybertruck offers outclass power, battery range, advanced technology, and an unusual exterior, so it mostly lives up to your expectations. However, the design has some drawbacks, like big blind spots and a wobbly windshield wiper. But the Cybertruck is still an attractive pickup for you if you want to go fast and embrace the innovation.

How Long Does It Take to Charge Tesla https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=how-long-does-it-take-to-charge-tesla/ https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=how-long-does-it-take-to-charge-tesla/#respond Tue, 09 Apr 2024 08:55:17 +0000 https://psppi.unisba.ac.id/?big=?p=244982 When buying a Tesla, everyone wants to know how long does it take to charge Tesla. Basically, it can take anywhere from an hour to a week to fully charge a Tesla. But factors like the model itself, power source, charging status, and temperature can affect the time required to charge Tesla.

In this post, we will know how long it will take a Tesla to charge based on the factors. So, let’s take a close look.

How Long Does It Take to Charge Tesla?

Charging your EV Tesla is not quite as simple as filling a gas tank. The charging time basically involves where you charge Tesla and what model you are driving.

You can charge your Tesla at home, at a supercharger, or destination charging stations.

  • Superchargers: The charging speed of 480-volt Superchargers are very fast compared to in-home charging. But when you charge the Tesla at charging stations (superchargers) can put a lot of stress on your Tesla’s battery life.
  • In-home charging: For everyday charging, an in-home charger is the best option. However, in-home charging has 3 different options, including:
  • 120-volt NEMA 5-15 charging (mobile connector)
  • 240-volt NEMA 14-50 charging
  • Tesla Wall Connector charging
  • Destination Chargers: These are just like Tesla wall connectors at home, designed for the end of the trip or during an overnight stopover.

Here, we have shared how long it takes to charge Tesla models, including Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X, Tesla Model Y, and Tesla Model 3, using different charging types; pretentiously, the battery of the car is completely hollow.

Tesla Model S

Charging typeCharging time
Level 1: NEMA 5-15Up to 4 days
Level 2: NEMA 14-50 chargingUp to 20 hours
Level 2: Tesla Wall ConnectorUp to 12 hours
Level 3: Tesla Supercharger1 hour

Tesla Model X

Charging typeCharging time
Level 1: NEMA 5-15Up to 3 days
Level 2: NEMA 14-50 chargingUp to 19 hours
Level 2: Tesla Wall ConnectorUp to 12 hours
Level 3: Tesla Supercharger30 minutes

Tesla Model Y

Charging typeCharging Time
Level 1: NEMA 5-15Up to 2 days
Level 2: NEMA 14-50 chargingUp to 11 hours
Level 2: Tesla Wall ConnectorUp to 8 hours
Level 3: Tesla SuperchargerHalf an hour

Tesla Model 3

Charging typeCharging Time
Level 1: NEMA 5-15Up to 2 days
Level 2: NEMA 14-50 chargingUp to 12 hours
Level 2: Tesla Wall ConnectorUp to 9 hours
Level 3: Tesla SuperchargerAlmost half an hour

NOTE: Keep in mind that EVs can’t charge the battery at the same max speed. After 50 percent of charge capacity, the speed of charging reduces to protect your Tesla’s battery health until it reaches full.

Factors Affecting the Time Duration of Tesla Charging

  1. The main factor that affects the charging duration is the different levels or speeds of EV charging. The charging time of your Tesla varies at every level and speed of charging.
  2. The size of your vehicle battery and the state of charge at the time of charging, whether it is full or empty, can also impact the charging times.
  3. Another factor affecting the time duration of Tesla charging is the charging station.
  4. Your Tesla model range, efficiency, and onboard charger, which determine the charging speed the car can accept, also impact the charging times.
  5. The surrounding weather can make a big difference in the time it takes to charge Tesla.

Can I Calculate How Long the Tesla Battery will Charge?

Yes, you can.

If you want to know how much time your Tesla battery will take to charge, you have to use the below-mentioned formula.

Charge needed (kWh)/Charge Power (kW) = Charging time

For instance;

Suppose you have a Tesla Model Y with an 80 kWh battery size. Your car parks at a 7.68kW level 2 charging station with 30% battery left.

To find the needed charge:

80% – 30%  = 50 needed

80kWh x 0.5 = 40kWh needed

Now calculate the charging time

40 (kWh needed) / 7.68 (kW charging speed) = 5.20 hours of charging time

Sum Up

Now you know how long does it take to charge Tesla. So, if you are going to charge Tesla, the wall connector is the best and recommended option, but it is expensive to purchase and install. At the same time, mobile connectors are a cheaper option but take longer time to charge. However, if you are driving a long-range or on a long trip, then you must find the nearest Tesla supercharger or a third-party charging station to charge Tesla.

About Tesla Battery Health

Right now, each of the four Tesla models has the most powerful and high-performance electric vehicle batteries. Like all electric vehicles, the lithium-ion battery of each Tesla model gradually reduces over time. The battery degradation is normal, and it gradually loses some of its power and range.

However, many factors affected Tesla’s battery health, including:

  • Improper charging
  • Battery age
  • Temperature
  • Depth of discharge
  • Recharge rate
  • Drive condition

That is why it is recommended to check your Tesla battery life to ensure optimal performance. The health of your Tesla battery is very important because it affects your vehicle’s performance, drive range, and resale rate.

When you check Tesla battery health, you see the estimated performance and remaining capacity of the battery as it ages. You can compare the current battery capacity with its original capacity to get insights into the extent of battery degradation and the health of your car.

How to Check Tesla Battery Health in 4 Ways

The regular valuation of your vehicle’s battery health is important. Whether you have the slick Tesla Model S, the family-friendly Tesla Model 3, the SUV Tesla Model X, or the versatile Tesla Model Y.

Here, we have shared 4 methods on how to check Tesla battery health.

1. Comparing the Current Range to Epa-Rated Range

Compare the current drive range that is displayed on the screen to the Epa-rated range to check the Tesla battery’s health. If you see a 5 percent or less reduction in range, it means it is normal degradation. But if the current range is remarkably lower than the Epa-rated range, it means that the capacity of the battery has reduced over time.

2. How to Check Tesla Battery Health in the App?

  • Open the Tesla app on your phone.
  • In the app’s menu, choose your vehicle option and then go to Upgrades.
  • Now tap on the battery option.

4. Check the Number of Miles

Another way to check the Tesla battery health is to monitor the number of miles driven till your car needs another charge. Do this check every time you charge your vehicle, and then you will know the battery capacity and performance.

How to Know the Tesla Battery Health Results

So, you know how to check Tesla battery health, but do you know how to conclude the results and know whether your Tesla battery is still performing optimally or not?

Here, we have shared how to understand the results after checking the Tesla battery health.

Battery Capacity

The percentage of battery health indicates the remaining capacity of your Tesla battery. It shows how much of the original capacity the battery can still hold. However, if you see the lower percentage, it means the battery is degrading. Meanwhile, the higher percentage means that the battery performance is optimal.

Battery Range

The battery range provides your Tesla performance results. When you compare the current range of the battery to the rated range when the vehicle was new, you can calculate the percentage change in range to know the battery’s health. As mentioned above, if you see a 5 percent reduction in range, it means it is normal degradation. But if you get a percentage higher than 5, it means the battery is degrading.

Why is a Tesla Battery Health Check Important? Reasons

  1. The Tesla battery health check lets you keep track of the battery’s overall health. As the battery ages, the battery capacity reduces, and its ability to hold a charge reduces as well. That is why knowing the battery’s health can help you plan for battery replacement when required.
  2. The battery health check also shows you the insight data of your Tesla. When you are selling your car, a healthy battery is more valuable than a car with a battery that is close to the end of its life. So, checking the battery’s health can help you know the car’s value and negotiate a fair price when selling.
  3. The battery health check also helps you know how your driving habits affect the battery’s health. For instance, frequent use of power charging can reduce the battery capacity over time. So, if you are aware of this, then you can adjust your charging habits to extend your Tesla’s battery life.

Conclusion

In this post, we have shared how to check Tesla battery health in four different ways. Once you know the results of battery health, it lets you plan the battery replacement when required, see the car’s selling value, and learn about the factors that affect the battery life. So, it is recommended that you practice good habits to increase your Tesla battery life.
